Choose between gondola and boltless racks by the job the shelving needs to do. A customer-facing display needs to present merchandise clearly and support the right accessories. A stockroom needs to accommodate the items staff store and retrieve. A shop may need different systems for those two spaces.
Hyperack supplies both gondola racks and boltless racks. Start with the merchandise, available space and access requirements, then ask which product configuration fits.
Plan the customer display and stockroom separately
For the sales floor, list what customers will browse: packaged goods, hanging products, boxed items or a mixture. Note which products need shelves and which need hooks or baskets. Think about how displays may change as your range changes.
For the stockroom, list the size and weight of the stored items and how staff handle them. Identify whether the goods are loose cartons, individual items or palletised stock. Do not assume that a shelf intended for hand-loaded stock can be used as a forklift-loaded pallet rack.
When to discuss gondola racking
Hyperack’s gondola range supports retail displays and includes shelf, hook and basket accessories. Its published range serves several shop types, including minimarkets, pharmacies and hardware stores.
For your quotation, ask which configuration fits each display area: a wall run, an island run or an end display. Then confirm the exact product options available. Send a simple merchandise list so the proposal can identify the accessories needed for different categories.
Do not copy an aisle dimension from another shop or a generic article. The finished layout needs to account for the premises, circulation, access and applicable requirements. Ask the designer to identify the assumptions behind the proposed layout.
When to discuss boltless racks
Boltless racks can be relevant to stockrooms and other storage areas where adjustable shelving fits the goods being handled. Hyperack’s range includes different series rather than one universal capacity.
Ask for the model, dimensions, shelf material and applicable loading conditions in the quotation. Confirm whether the stated figure applies per level or to a complete configuration. If items create concentrated loads or require an unusual arrangement, describe that to the supplier rather than assuming a general rating applies.
Compare the requirements

| Buyer question | Gondola discussion | Boltless discussion |
|---|---|---|
| Will customers browse directly from the shelves? | Consider merchandise presentation and the display arrangement | Confirm whether the selected rack suits the intended display use |
| Do products hang as well as sit on shelves? | Ask about compatible hooks, baskets and other display accessories | Do not assume retail accessories fit a storage rack |
| Is the area mainly a staff stockroom? | Explain any display or picking requirement | Give item dimensions, weights and handling needs |
| Will the range or layout change? | Confirm which components and accessories can be adjusted or extended | Confirm the selected series and compatible extension options |
| Are goods palletised? | Describe the handling requirement before choosing a fixture | Ask whether a separate pallet racking system is needed |
| What should be on the quotation? | Exact configuration, accessories and layout scope | Exact series, dimensions, decks and loading conditions |
Prepare one brief for the supplier
Send your location, a floor plan or known measurements, photos of the space and a list of merchandise or stock. Identify customer-facing areas, staff storage, doors and fixed obstructions. State whether the project is a new shop, a replacement display or an extension to an existing system.
If you want to retain existing racks, include their labels and available product records. Ask about compatibility before ordering additional components.
Request a quotation that separates the fixtures, accessories and work included. Confirm delivery, unloading and installation arrangements for your premises. Ask what information is still needed before the proposal can be finalised.
Frequently asked questions
Can one shop use both systems?
Yes, a shop can have separate requirements for merchandise display and stock storage. Discuss each area with the supplier so the proposed configuration fits its intended use.
Is a boltless rack always cheaper than a gondola rack?
There is no useful universal comparison without the actual specifications and scope. Compare dimensions, components, accessories, loading conditions and included work for the two proposals.
Can I add hooks or shelves from another brand?
Do not assume they are compatible. Give the supplier the product identification and ask for confirmation before combining components or changing the configuration.
Can Hyperack help with the shop layout?
Hyperack’s gondola page lists consultation and layout planning as part of its offer. Send your requirements through the contact page and ask what information the team needs for your project.
